How to find a PhD Supervisor

In the knowledge base, a doctoral student can not only browse the profiles of scientists, individual units (departments, institutes chairs), but can also search for a scientist in order to find a PhD supervisor. In the recruitment process, scientists (independent employees) can declare their willingness to supervise a PhD student. Those scientists who have made such a declaration are searchable on the scientists' search screens. The instructions below show how a doctoral student can make the appropriate selection.

It is not required to log into the knowledge base.

  1. Go to the "Researchers and Units" menu and select Researchers (Fig.1)

  2. Select the filter "Profiles with research proposal (for PhD students)" (Fig. 2), optionally enter keywords in the "search" field. You can also use the filters on the left to narrow down the answer (e.g., select relevant disciplines, units)

  3. Optionally, provide keywords in the search area in order to narrow the result to a specific research domain

  4. The result is obtained as in Fig. 3

  5. You can add more filters, e.g. Units.

  6. To verify the offer of a potential supervisor, click on the person in the search results and you get his/her profile, where in the tab Current research you can review the researcher's offer (Fig. 4)

Having a list of selected potential supervisors, the PhD student can arrange an interview and ultimately determine the choice together with the selected scientist.
