Functions of the admin of research data module

The functions of a research data repository administrator are definitely beyond the functional capabilities of a university database. In the following, we limit ourselves only to those functionalities offered by OMEGA-PSIR software.

The research data administrator has access to all the functions of the research data module, i.e. the deposition function and the research data-steward function. Independently, the primary task of the administrator is to assign data-stewards to support researchers depositing research data. The implemented notification process provides that:

  1. each initiated edit of a research data record (or a new version of it) sends a notification to the "nearest" research data steward that the edit has been initiated;

  2. the administrator assigns the new record/version to the steward by entering it into the Data-steward field in the research data record/version; linking the initiated record to the record of a particular steward causes the appropriate alert to be sent to the steward;

  3. lack of any action by the depositing researcher for n days results in a notification to the administrator (and data-steward) that the process needs to be reviewed and the reason for the lack of progress in depositing the data determined.

The parameter n is defined in the configuration of the research data repository module

The research data repository administrator is also responsible for many other elements related to repository functionality that are configurable in the University Knowledgebase system, so it is recommended that regardless of the assigned role of researchdatacoordinator, he/she should have the role of installation administrator. Examples of such functionalities are

  1. editing the content of automatically generated e-mails

  2. editing the content of the author's deposition statement

  3. controlling the work of data-stewards

  4. control of handling requests for preparation of readme files in accordance with WCAG requirements.
