Manual for the Award module
The Rewards module has been implemented with a view to handling rewards at the university. Integration of the module with Knowledge Base allows for fuller use of existing resources collected in Knowledge Base by both the university community and the administration. The basic proposal in the module concerns supporting processes related to the handling of awards, taking into account the requirements of the remuneration regulations at the Warsaw University of Technology, but it is possible to adapt the module to the regulations at other universities.
The module distinguishes between two types of rewards:
competition prizes
non-competitive awards (assigned automatically for given type of achievements)
Competition awards: Competition awards require the announcement of a competition. In response to the announcement in the Knowledge Base, researchers submit applications for the award. After the application window closes, the faculty authorities review the applications. Once a decision has been made by the unit authorities, the applications are reviewed by the university's awards committee. In the case of university applications, acceptance at the university level means that the award is granted, while in the case of applications for external awards (ministerial, Polish Academy of Sciences, etc.), applications accepted at the university level are sent to the awarding institution. In this case, the final decisions on the award are recorded in the Knowledge Base after the decision is received.
Non-competitive awards: Awards of this type do not require a competition to be announced. The university authorities set the rules of the competition, and all university employees who meet these conditions are automatically selected from the Knowledge Base and qualified for the award. An example of this is the Best Paper Award—the appearance of a publication in selected journals during the period specified in the regulations automatically becomes the basis for awarding the authors.
The following section will discuss both types of awards from the perspective of the award process for each type.
