Dictionary types data

The database also contains generic dictionary data types, which are used in Knowledge Base in order to provide categories, whenever new needs arise. In other words, this functionality makes it possible to differentiate the used categories of certain data in each institutional knowledge base, according to specific requirements and expectations.

The following screen shows the types of dictionary data in BW.

Currently, there are 21 system types of dictionary data, which means these dictionaries are maintained centrally while distributing new system versions. Additionally non-system types are available (their maintenance is under responsibility of the university. Currently we use more than 200 dictionary types.

Below the system types are shown

As you can infer from the name of the data types used, they are used to define acceptable values of various indicators, flags and other attributes of specific objects in KB. The prepared data types have a specific role and are programmatically assigned to the corresponding objects, and this cannot be changed (without programming changes), but they give great flexibility in selecting the values of those indicators that should be used in a given institution. This approach also allows for relatively easy extensions and modifications of the characteristics provided for in the initial phase of system implementation, which do not require programming changes.

For a current list of dictionary data types, see Appendix 1.
